Buy for Me

Buy for Me is an Amazon feature that lets shoppers buy from a brand's own website without leaving the Amazon app, with Amazon's AI placing the order.

Buy for Me is a feature in Amazon's shopping app that lets people buy products Amazon doesn't sell, from the brand's own website, without leaving Amazon. The shopper taps a button, checks the order on an Amazon page, and Amazon's AI goes to the brand's site and completes the checkout for them.

For brands, it's an early example of an AI agent standing between you and your customer. The sale happens on your site, but the customer never sees it.

How it works

According to Amazon's announcement, products from brand sites can appear in a separate section of Amazon's search results. When the shopper chooses Buy for Me, Amazon passes their details to the brand's checkout and places the order. The brand then handles delivery, returns and customer service. Amazon launched it as a test for some shoppers in the US, with a limited set of brands.

What it changes for you

Your website stops being only a place for people. An agent has to read your product pages, pick the right size and colour, and get through your checkout. If any step is hard for software, the sale can fail.

For example, say Harrow & Pine sells a dining table in three wood finishes, and the finish is chosen from a menu that only works with a mouse. A person can buy it easily. An agent may pick the wrong finish, or give up.

The customer relationship changes too. The shopper thinks of it as an Amazon purchase. If something goes wrong, you're the one dealing with it, often with less information about who the customer is.

How to get ready

Write product names, prices, sizes and stock into your page's text, where software can read them. Use product structured data. Test your checkout with as few steps as you can.
