Entity
An entity is a distinct thing a search engine or AI model recognizes, like your company, a product or a person, with facts attached to it.
An entity is a distinct thing that search engines and AI models recognize and keep facts about: a company, a product, a person, a place. Your brand is an entity. So is each of your products, and so is your founder.
The idea matters because AI platforms don't just match words. They try to work out which thing you mean. "Apple" the company and "apple" the fruit share a name but are different entities, and a model that mixes them up gives a wrong answer.
Why being a clear entity helps
When a platform is sure who you are, it can connect everything said about you across the web: your site, reviews, news, directories. When it isn't sure, it may blend you with another business that shares your name, or leave you out because it can't tell which one people mean.
For example, if a small bakery called "Harbour" shares its name with a marina and a law firm, an AI answer about "Harbour opening hours" may give the marina's hours.
How to make your brand a clear entity
- Use the same name, address and description everywhere you're listed
- Say plainly on your own site what you are, what you sell and where you operate
- Add structured data to your site, such as Organization markup, that names your brand and links your official profiles
- Get listed on the directories and reference sites the platforms read, like Wikidata or the main review sites in your industry

We count an answer as naming you only when it uses your name, or another name you've given us, as a whole word. If an answer is clearly about a different business with your name, we don't count it. If we can't tell, we mark it as possibly another business and leave it out. You can add the names you go by in Settings.
