Google-GeminiNotebook

Google-GeminiNotebook is the fetcher Google uses to read a web page when someone adds it as a source in Gemini Notebook, formerly NotebookLM.

Google-GeminiNotebook is the user agent Google uses when it fetches a web page that someone has added as a source in Gemini Notebook, the research tool that used to be called NotebookLM. It only visits a page because a person asked for it.

For a brand, each visit from this fetcher is a small but telling signal. Someone found your page useful enough to put it in their research.

How it differs from a crawler

Crawlers like Googlebot read the web on their own schedule. Google-GeminiNotebook doesn't crawl at all. It fetches one address at a time, when a person adds it to a notebook.

Google lists it among its user-triggered fetchers, and says these generally ignore robots.txt rules, since a user requested the fetch. So a Disallow in robots.txt isn't a dependable way to keep it out.

The old name

Before Google renamed NotebookLM, the same fetcher was called Google-NotebookLM. Google's page says that name was supported until August 2026. If you filter or count bots in your logs, or have rules for them in your firewall, check that they use the new name.

An example

For example, a buyer at a café group is comparing espresso machines. She adds Harrow & Pine's spec page and two competitors' pages to a notebook. Google-GeminiNotebook fetches all three. If Harrow & Pine's page returns an error to the fetcher, or keeps its specs in a script-loaded tab, the notebook has less to work with for Harrow & Pine than for the others.
