MCP (Model Context Protocol)

MCP is an open standard that lets AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor connect to other tools and use them on your behalf.

MCP, short for Model Context Protocol, is an open standard for connecting AI assistants to other tools. Once an assistant like Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor is connected to a tool over MCP, you can ask it questions in plain words and it fetches the answer from that tool, signed in as you.

Before MCP, every assistant needed its own custom connection to every tool. MCP gives them one shared way to talk, so a tool that offers an MCP server works with any assistant that supports it. The standard is published at modelcontextprotocol.io.

How it works

A tool runs an MCP server, which describes what the assistant can do with it: the data it can read, and any actions it can take. You add that server to your assistant as a connector and sign in. From then on, when you ask a question the tool can answer, the assistant calls it instead of guessing.

Think of it like giving a colleague read access to a shared folder. They can look things up for you, but only in the folders you've shared, and only with the permissions you've given them.

Why it matters for marketers

Instead of opening a dashboard, you can ask your assistant "Which competitors gained the most visibility this week?" and get the answer with the numbers behind it. You can also combine tools in one question, like your analytics and your AI visibility, if both are connected.

MCP in AnswerOrbit

AnswerOrbit has an MCP server on every plan. Connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, choose the brands it may read, and ask about your numbers. It reads only those brands, and never more than you can see yourself. If it asks to add prompts, nothing changes until someone on your team approves it.

It stays signed in for 30 days after you last use it, and 90 days at most. You can disconnect it any time. Set it up with Connect your assistant.
