Region

A region is the country, and sometimes city, a prompt is asked from. AI platforms answer differently depending on where the person is.

A region is the place a prompt is asked from: usually a country, sometimes a city. AI platforms tailor their answers to where they think the person is, so the same question can name different brands in London, Dublin and Denver.

If you sell in more than one place, you need to know what people see in each one. A brand that's always named in the UK can be missing in Ireland, and you won't find out by asking from your desk.

Why answers change by place

Platforms that search the web use local results, much like a search engine. They also take into account language, spelling, currency and which shops deliver where. Ask "best coffee subscription" from the UK and you'll hear about UK roasters with prices in pounds. Ask from the US and you'll hear different names in dollars.

City matters too, for anything local. "Coffee beans delivered same day" will get different answers in Leeds and in Bristol.

An example

Fernhill Coffee sells in the UK and Ireland. In the UK it's named in 40% of answers. When it starts tracking the same prompts from Ireland, it's named in 10%. The Irish answers lean on Irish review sites and list articles that don't mention Fernhill. That's a clear place to start: get onto the sources the Irish answers use.

Regions in AnswerOrbit

We call a region a market. A market is a country your prompts are asked from, in its language, and you can also pick a city, and in the US a state, for the platforms that ask from them. Each prompt you run in a market counts once toward your plan, so the same prompt in two markets counts twice. Add markets in Settings. Every answer we collect is asked as someone who isn't signed in, from that prompt's market. See How we count.
