Agentic marketing

Agentic marketing is handing marketing work to AI agents that plan and carry out the steps themselves. It also means marketing to agents.

Agentic marketing is handing marketing work to AI agents that decide the steps themselves. You give the agent a goal, such as finding out why your visibility dropped on ChatGPT this week, and it works out what to look at, does the work, and comes back with a result.

You'll also hear the term used the other way round: marketing to AI agents, because more and more of the research before a purchase is done by an agent for a person. Both meanings are about the same shift. Software is starting to sit on both sides of the conversation.

How it differs from automation

Automation follows rules you wrote. If a form is filled in, send email two. An agent doesn't need every step spelled out. It can choose which report to open, which numbers to compare, and what to try next when something doesn't add up.

That freedom is the point, and it's also the risk. An agent that can act can also act wrongly. Most teams start by letting agents read, research and draft, and keep a person in charge of anything that publishes, spends or changes data.

An example

The marketing lead at Fernhill Coffee asks her assistant: "Which of our topics lost ground on Perplexity, and what should we add?" The assistant pulls the numbers by topic and platform, sees that the office coffee topic fell, and suggests five new prompts about office coffee machines. She reads them, keeps three and drops two.

In AnswerOrbit

You can connect your assistant, whether that's Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, and it can read your numbers by topic, prompt, platform, market and more. It can also suggest up to 20 prompts at a time for a topic. It can't add them itself: each suggestion waits for someone on your team to approve or decline it.
