Claude

Claude is Anthropic's AI assistant. It can search the web and cite the pages it used in its answers.

Claude is the AI assistant made by Anthropic. People use it to write, research and ask questions, and it can search the web and link to the pages it used. Anthropic added web search in March 2025 and says Claude gives direct citations so you can check its sources.

For a marketer, Claude is one more place where people ask for recommendations, and one more company whose bots may read your site.

How Claude reads your pages

Anthropic runs three bots, each with its own name and job, listed on its crawler page. ClaudeBot collects pages that may be used to train its models. Claude-SearchBot reads pages for the index behind Claude's search. Claude-User fetches a page when someone's question needs it.

You can allow or block each one in your robots.txt. If you want Claude to find and cite your pages, the search bot and the user bot need to be able to reach them. Anthropic says blocking either one may reduce how visible you are in Claude's answers.

For example, a coffee roaster blocks every Anthropic bot to keep its pages out of training. Someone then asks Claude to compare coffee subscriptions, and Claude can't read the roaster's prices. Blocking only ClaudeBot would have kept the training opt-out and left Claude's search alone.

Claude in AnswerOrbit

Claude isn't one of the six platforms we ask every day. Those are ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Copilot, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, as How we count explains.

You can connect Claude to AnswerOrbit, though, and ask it about your numbers. Add a custom connector in Claude's settings, paste your server address, and sign in. See Connect your assistant.
