Competitor

In AI visibility tracking, a competitor is a brand you measure yourself against in the answers, alongside your own.

In AI visibility tracking, a competitor is a brand you measure yourself against in the answers. You track how often the platforms name you, and the same for each competitor, so you can see who's named more, who's named first and who's gaining.

Your choice of competitors shapes your numbers. Share of voice and some ranks only count the brands you track, so the list decides who you're compared with.

Who counts as a competitor

Pick the brands your customers weigh you against. Those aren't always the companies you think of as rivals. In the answers, your competitors can include marketplaces, supermarkets, a big brand from the next category over, or a small business that happens to have great reviews.

For example, Fernhill tracks Kestrel Roasters and Harrow & Pine, its two rivals in specialty coffee. But the answers to "best coffee subscription" keep naming a supermarket's own-brand subscription too. For the people asking, that's one of the options, so it belongs on the list.

Names matter

Answers don't always use a brand's full name. They use short names, old names and misspellings. If you only track "Harrow & Pine," answers that say "Harrow and Pine" may not count. Give each competitor every name customers use for it.

In AnswerOrbit

You can track up to 20 competitors for each brand, in Competitors. Ranking shows you and every competitor on the same numbers. Suggested lists brands named next to you that you don't track yet. Unmatched shows names we couldn't match to any brand you track, so you can map them to the right one.

When you add a competitor, we recount every answer you've collected, so its history starts on the same day as yours. Expect your share of voice to change when you do.
