Domain coverage
Domain coverage is your website's share of the citations in AI answers, compared with your competitors' websites.
Domain coverage is how much of the citing in AI answers goes to your website, compared with your competitors' websites. Where a domain citation count tells you how often your site is used, domain coverage tells you whether that's a lot or a little next to everyone else in your category.
It's the citation version of share of voice. One counts names, the other counts sites.
How it's worked out
Take all the links in the answers for the questions you track. Count the ones that point to your site, then divide by the total. Some tools use only the links to you and your competitors as the total. Others use every link, including reviews, news and forums. The second gives a smaller number, but one that doesn't change when you add a competitor. Check which one a tool uses before you compare.
For example, say the answers to Harrow & Pine's prompts contain 200 links this week. 24 point to Harrow & Pine's site, 40 to a competitor's and 136 to other sites. Counting every link, Harrow & Pine's coverage is 24 out of 200, or 12%. Counting only the two brands, it's 24 out of 64, or 38%.
What it tells you
A low domain coverage with high visibility means the platforms name you mostly from other people's pages. That's fine while those pages say good things, but you have little control over them.
A high domain coverage with low visibility usually means the platforms read your site and still recommend someone else. Look at what your pages say, and whether they answer the question the person asked.
