Citation rank
Citation rank is your place among brands or websites, ordered by how often AI answers use their pages.
Citation rank puts brands or websites in order by how often AI answers use their pages, and tells you where you come. A citation rank of 1 means no one is cited more than you.
Tools use the term in two ways. Some rank individual websites and pages against every other source. Others rank brands against each other. Both answer the same question: when the platforms look for evidence, whose pages do they pick?
How we count it
In AnswerOrbit, citation rank is your brand's place among the brands you track, ordered by Citations: the share of answers that used each brand's website.
For example, say 31% of answers used Kestrel's website, 20% used yours and 12% used Harrow's. Your citation rank is 2.
To see how single websites and pages rank against every other source, including review sites and directories, use the Domains and Pages tabs in Sources.
Why it can differ from your visibility rank
A brand can be named often and cited rarely, or the other way round. A platform can name a brand without using any page from its website. And a brand can publish the pages the platforms rely on, while the answer still recommends someone else.
If your citation rank is much better than your visibility rank, look at answers that cite you without naming you. What the numbers mean calls that cited, not named.
