Entity establishment

Entity establishment is the work of getting search engines and AI models to recognize your brand as one clear thing, with the right facts attached.

Entity establishment is the work of getting search engines and AI models to recognize your brand as one clear thing, with the right facts attached to it. Until that happens, your name is just a word the platforms have seen. Once it does, they know what you are, what you sell and where you fit.

It matters most for new brands, renamed brands and brands in crowded categories, where the platforms have the least to go on.

What it takes

There's no single switch. A model builds up its picture of you from many sources that agree with each other, so the work is mostly about consistency and corroboration.

Start with your own site. Say what you are in plain words on the home page and the About page, using the same name and description every time. Add Organization structured data that names your brand and links your official profiles.

Then make sure the same facts appear elsewhere. Business directories, review sites, your social profiles, industry associations and reference sites like Wikidata all count. When independent sources describe you the same way, the platforms have something to confirm.

An example

For example, say a new roaster, Wren Coffee Co., launches with a website and nothing else. Asked about Wren, an AI platform might guess, describe a bird, or say it doesn't know.

Six months later Wren is on two coffee directories, has a Wikidata entry, has been reviewed by a trade blog and uses the same one-line description everywhere. Now when the platform reads about Wren, every source points the same way.

How you can tell it's working

Ask the platforms about yourself by name. Do they describe you correctly? Do they mix you up with anyone? Branded prompts are the simplest test, and their answers change as your entity gets clearer.

In AnswerOrbit, Perception shows how the platforms describe you and the qualities they tie you to, and Claims checks what they say against your facts.
