Google Webmaster Tools
Google Webmaster Tools was the old name for Google Search Console, Google's free tool for watching how your site does in its search.
Google Webmaster Tools was the old name for Google Search Console, Google's free tool for site owners. Google renamed it in May 2015, because the people using it were no longer just "webmasters." They were marketers, small business owners, developers and SEOs too.
If an old guide tells you to check something in Webmaster Tools, look for the same thing in Search Console.
What it did, and still does
The jobs haven't changed much. You prove you own a site, and Google tells you how it sees it: which searches show your pages, how often people click, which pages are indexed and which aren't, and whether anything is wrong, such as crawl errors, security problems or a manual action.
Some old features are gone or have moved, and new ones have arrived, such as the Page indexing report and the Core Web Vitals report.
Bing has one too
Bing still calls its version Bing Webmaster Tools. It's worth setting up as well, because Bing's index feeds more than Bing. For example, Microsoft's Copilot searches the web with Bing, so a page Bing can't index is harder for Copilot answers to find.

You can connect both Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools in Settings, under Connections. Google and Bing don't share their AI reports with other tools yet. See Settings.
