Long-tail relevance

Long-tail relevance is being the right answer for specific, detailed questions, where fewer people ask but those who do are close to deciding.

Long-tail relevance is being the best match for the narrow, detailed questions in your category. "Best coffee" is the head. "Low-acid coffee subscription that ships to Ireland" is the long tail. Each long-tail question is asked by fewer people, but there are a lot of them, and the people asking them usually know what they want.

In AI search, people often ask in full sentences with all their conditions, so many of their questions land in the long tail.

Why it favours specific brands

Broad questions get broad answers, and those tend to name the biggest brands. A detailed question narrows the field. The platform looks for pages that match every condition, and a big brand's general page may not.

For example, ask "what's the best coffee subscription?" and the answer might name Kestrel Roasters first. Ask "which coffee subscription has decaf options and lets you pause anytime?" and Fernhill Coffee, with a page that says exactly that, can come out on top.

How to build it

Write down the conditions your customers bring to the question: their diet, budget, location, equipment, situation. Then make sure your site says plainly which of them you meet. A short page, or a clear section, for each important case often does more than one long page trying to cover everything.

Your support inbox, reviews and sales calls are the best sources. They tell you the exact wording people use.

Each prompt can be up to 300 characters, long enough for the detailed questions people really ask. Audiences let you ask a prompt again as a particular kind of customer would. And the Demand tab shows the related questions people ask around a phrase. See Topics and prompts.
