Market perception prompt
A market perception prompt asks an AI platform how to choose in a category, like "What should I look for in a coffee subscription?", without naming brands.
A market perception prompt asks an AI platform how a whole category works and how to choose in it, without naming any brand. "What should I look for in a coffee subscription?" and "How do I choose a project management tool for a small team?" are market perception prompts.
The answer doesn't recommend anyone directly. It tells the customer what matters. That shapes every choice they make afterwards.
Why the criteria matter
If a platform tells people the most important thing in a coffee subscription is how fresh the beans are, brands known for freshness win. If it says the most important thing is price, the cheapest brands win.
So read these answers for the criteria they list. If the platform's list leaves out the thing you're best at, customers won't think to ask about it, and you'll lose comparisons you should win.
For example, if every answer about choosing an office coffee supplier talks about price and machine rental, and none mentions delivery reliability, a supplier whose strength is never missing a delivery needs that point made on the pages the platforms read.

You can track market perception prompts in Topics like any other prompt. Perception goes further: every week we ask each platform our own questions about your industry and the brands in it, and find the qualities they tie to brands, like Freshness or Price. You'll see how strongly each quality is tied to you and where you stand among the brands named for it. These questions don't count toward your plan. See Perception.
