New mention

A new mention is getting your brand added to a page the AI platforms already use for your customers' questions, where it names competitors but not you.

A new mention is getting your brand named on a page the AI platforms already read for your customers' questions, when that page names your competitors and leaves you out. It's one of the most direct things you can do outside your own site, because the platforms already trust the page.

Think of it as asking to be added to a shortlist that buyers already check. You don't need to build a new page and wait for the platforms to find it. The page is already in their answers.

Why it works

When a platform searches the web before answering, it keeps going back to the same handful of pages for a question: list articles, comparisons, directories, review roundups. If one of those pages names three of your competitors, the answers built from it are likely to name them too.

For example, say a "best coffee subscriptions" article is used in 30 of your answers a week. It names Kestrel Roasters and Harrow & Pine, but not Fernhill Coffee. If the editor adds Fernhill, the platforms can pick that up the next time they read the page.

How to get one

Start with the page, not the outreach. Read it and see how it chooses brands. Some list articles take suggestions, some are written from tests, some are directories you can join yourself.

Then contact the person who runs it with something they can use: what you offer, why it fits their readers, and any facts they'd need, like prices or where you deliver. Never pay for a place or trade links for one. Platforms and search engines treat paid placements as spam, and readers stop trusting the page.

Changes take a while to show up. The platforms have to read the page again, and then your prompts have to be asked enough times to see a difference.

The Gaps tab in Sources lists the pages whose answers name a competitor but not you, each with a score out of 100. In Recommendations, "Get onto a page that names your competitors" and "List your brand in a directory" turn those gaps into steps, with the answers and pages behind them.
