People Also Ask

People Also Ask is the Google search feature that lists related questions, each opening to a short answer from a web page.

People Also Ask is the box of related questions Google shows in many search results. Each question opens to a short answer taken from a web page, with a link to that page. Open one, and more questions often appear below it.

For marketers, it's a free list of what people want to know around a subject, and a way to be seen on searches you don't rank first for.

How it works

Google picks questions related to the search, and for each one it shows a passage from a page that answers it. The questions change with the search and shift over time. They show up most on searches that are questions already, or broad enough to lead to several.

For example, a search for "cold brew coffee" might show:

  • How long does cold brew last in the fridge?
  • Is cold brew stronger than regular coffee?
  • What's the best coffee for cold brew?

If Kestrel Roasters' brewing guide has a clear two-sentence answer to "what's the best coffee for cold brew?" under a heading with that question, it has a fair chance of being the page Google quotes.

Using it for content

People Also Ask is good research. The questions are real, phrased the way people ask them, and grouped around a subject. Many teams collect them for a topic and answer the best ones on their own pages, each under its own heading with a direct answer first.

The questions in People Also Ask look a lot like prompts people type into AI platforms. Someone who searches "cold brew coffee" might ask an assistant "what's the best coffee for cold brew, and how long does it keep?" in one go. And when a platform breaks a question into several searches of its own, the related questions are often among them.

The same writing habits help with both: a heading that asks the question, followed straight away by a short, plain answer.
