Position

Position is where your brand is named in an AI answer, counting the first brand named as 1.

Position is where you come in an AI answer. If an answer names five brands and you're the third, your position in that answer is 3. Lower is better.

It matters because people read from the top. A brand named first in a list of recommendations gets more attention than one named seventh, even though both were mentioned.

How we count it

We count every brand the answer names, whether you track it or not, in the order each one first appears. Then we average your position across the answers that name you, over the last seven days.

Some answers are numbered lists and some are paragraphs. In a paragraph, the order is the order in which brands are first named.

For example, if you're named first in 20 answers and third in 29, your position is 2.2: 20 answers at 1 and 29 at 3, divided by 49 answers.

What the numbers mean has the full definition, and How we count covers how we read the order.

Read it next to visibility

Answers that don't name you aren't part of your position at all. So position tells you how high you come when you're named, and visibility tells you how often that happens.

You need both. A brand named first in 2 answers out of 140 has a great position and almost no visibility. A brand named in most answers but always near the bottom has the opposite problem.
