Presence rate
Presence rate is the share of AI answers that name your brand at least once. In AnswerOrbit it's called visibility.
Presence rate is the share of AI answers that name your brand at least once. Ask the platforms 100 questions, and if 30 of the answers mention you, your presence rate is 30%.
It's the simplest number in AI search, and the easiest to explain to a boss or a client. It answers the first question anyone has: when people ask, do the platforms name us at all?
How it's counted
An answer either names you or it doesn't. An answer that names you five times counts the same as one that names you once. Then you divide the answers that name you by all the answers.
The bottom of that sum matters. Every answer should count, including answers that name no brand at all, because a customer who asked and heard no brand didn't hear yours either.
For example, say Fernhill Coffee tracks 10 prompts on two platforms for a week, which makes 140 answers. Fernhill is named in 49 of them. Its presence rate is 49 out of 140, or 35%.
What it leaves out
Presence rate doesn't tell you where you were named. Being listed first and being the seventh brand in a long list count the same. It doesn't tell you what was said, either, so a warning about you counts as much as a recommendation.
That's why it's best read with other numbers: your position for where you come, share of voice for how you compare with competitors, and sentiment for the tone.
