Prompt run

A prompt run is one ask of one prompt on one AI platform. Every visibility number is built from runs, so their count tells you how solid a number is.

A prompt run is a single ask of one prompt on one AI platform. Ask 10 prompts on 2 platforms once a day, and that's 20 runs a day. Some tools call a run an execution.

Runs are the raw material of every number in AI search tracking. A visibility of 35% means 35% of the runs that got an answer named you.

Why the count matters

AI platforms rarely give the same answer twice, even to the same question. One run can name you and the next might not. So a number built from a few runs can swing a lot from day to day, and a number built from hundreds is much steadier.

That's why the count should always sit next to the number. "35% visibility" means little on its own. "35% of 140 answers" tells you how much to trust it.

For example, if you track one prompt on one platform, a single run that happens to name you takes your visibility for the day from 0% to 100%. Track 10 prompts on 6 platforms for a week, and you have 420 runs, enough for a number that only moves when something has really changed.

When a run fails

Sometimes a platform doesn't answer: it's down, it limits requests, or it shows plain search results with no AI answer. A run like that has no answer to count, and a good tracker leaves it out of the numbers instead of guessing.

Runs in AnswerOrbit

We ask each of your prompts once a day on each platform, starting at 01:00 in your brand's time zone, and every number shows how many answers it's based on. The Platforms panel in Answers shows how many runs each platform answered today. If a platform doesn't answer, we try again, and a day that's still missing is never filled in. See How we count.
