Prompt type

Prompt type is the kind of question a prompt is, such as learning, comparing or buying, so you can read each kind on its own.

Prompt type is the kind of question a prompt asks. The usual way to sort them is by what the person wants: to learn about something, to compare options, or to buy. Some tools also sort by whether the prompt names your brand, or by what they check in the answer.

Sorting matters because each type tells you something different. Being named often for learning questions and never for buying ones is a very different problem from the reverse.

The common types

Learning prompts ask how something works or what to know, like "How do you brew cold brew at home?" Answers often teach first and name brands in passing.

Comparing prompts weigh options, like "Kestrel Roasters or Fernhill Coffee for espresso?" or "Best coffee subscription for beginners." This is where brands are ranked against each other.

Buying prompts ask where or what to buy, like "Where can I get a coffee subscription delivered in Leeds?" These come right before a decision.

Branded prompts name you, and checking prompts ask the platform whether something about you is true. Both are useful, and both should be read apart from the rest, as they name you almost every time.

Reading results by type

For example, Fernhill tracks 30 prompts, 10 of each type. It's named in 6 of 10 learning answers, 4 of 10 comparing answers and 1 of 10 buying answers. Its overall visibility looks fair, but the buying questions, the ones closest to a sale, are where it's missing. That points to product pages, local delivery pages and the shop listings the platforms read.
