Brand placement

Brand placement is how early in an AI answer's text your brand first appears, near the top or deep in the answer.

Brand placement is how far into an AI answer your brand first appears. Are you named in the opening line, or in the last paragraph after a long introduction? Some tools express it as a share of the text, such as the first tenth of the answer.

It matters because people don't always read to the end. A name near the top is seen by nearly everyone who reads the answer. A name at the bottom is only seen by the ones who kept going.

Placement vs position

Position is your order among the brands an answer names: first, second, third. Placement is where in the text that happens. The two usually go together, and sometimes they don't.

For example, an answer about coffee subscriptions spends four paragraphs on how to choose beans, grind size and roast dates. Then it names Fernhill Coffee, Kestrel Roasters and one other brand. Fernhill is in position 1, the first brand named. Its placement is near the end of the answer, where fewer people get to.

Now picture an answer that opens with "Kestrel Roasters is a popular choice" and names Fernhill two lines later. Fernhill is in position 2, and it's still higher up the page than in the first answer.

What affects it

Placement depends a lot on the kind of question. Questions that ask for a recommendation tend to get brand names early. Questions that ask how to do something tend to explain first and name brands later, if at all. So compare placement between prompts of the same kind.

In AnswerOrbit

Our position counts the order in which brands first appear in each answer. To see where in the text you're named, open an answer in Answers. You'll see its full text, with every brand it named marked, in the order they appear.
