Content gap analysis
Content gap analysis finds the topics your competitors cover, and get found for, that your own website doesn't.
Content gap analysis is comparing your website with your competitors' to find the subjects they cover and you don't. In SEO, it usually means the keywords your competitors rank for in Google and you don't. In AI search, it means the questions where the platforms name your competitors and not you.
It turns a vague goal, being found more often, into a list of specific pages to write or improve.
How it works in SEO
You take the search terms your competitors rank for, remove the ones you already rank for, and look at what's left. The terms that bring your competitors the most visitors are usually the first pages to write.
How it works in AI search
The idea is the same, but the starting point is the answers. You look for the prompts and topics where the platforms name your competitors and leave you out, then ask why.
Sometimes the answer is a missing page: you've never written about the subject. Sometimes the page exists but the platforms can't pull a clear answer out of it. And sometimes the problem isn't your site at all, but a source gap: a page you don't own that leaves you out.
For example, if answers about "coffee subscriptions for offices" keep naming two competitors and never you, and you have no page about office subscriptions, that's a content gap. If you do have the page and the answers still cite a comparison article that skips you, that's a source gap.

Your topics show your visibility topic by topic, so you can see where you're furthest behind. Recommendations then suggest the change, such as creating a page on a topic or improving a page for a prompt, with the answers and pages that back it up.
