Marketing Engineer
A Marketing Engineer is someone in marketing who builds their own automations and AI workflows, joining marketing know-how with technical skill.
A Marketing Engineer is someone in marketing who builds their own tools. They know the market, the customers and the message, and they can also connect tools, write a little code and set up AI agents to do repeat work. The job title is new. Technical marketers have been around much longer.
The role has grown because AI tools now let one person build what used to need a developer. Someone who understands both sides can spot a problem and ship the fix the same week.
What they do
A Marketing Engineer looks for marketing work that follows the same steps every time, and automates it. That might be a weekly report, a set of landing pages built from a spreadsheet, or an agent that reads new reviews and drafts replies.
They keep the decisions for people. Choosing which competitor to target, or how to answer a bad review, still needs someone who knows the business.
An example
For example, each Monday, an agency's account manager spent two hours pulling AI visibility numbers for five clients into slides. A Marketing Engineer on the team connects an AI assistant to their tools and writes one prompt that pulls the numbers, compares them with last week and drafts a note for each client. The account manager now spends 20 minutes checking the drafts and deciding what to say.
Skills that help
You don't need to be a developer. It helps to be comfortable with spreadsheets, APIs and connecting tools, to know how to write clear instructions for an AI model, and to have the judgment to know when the output is wrong.

You can connect Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor to AnswerOrbit and ask about your numbers in plain words. See Connect your assistant. On Growth, Scale and agency plans, the API lets your own tools read a brand's numbers.
