Share of voice rank

Share of voice rank is your place among the brands you track, ordered by their share of the mentions in AI answers.

Share of voice rank is your place in a league table of the brands you track, ordered by share of voice. If you have the biggest share of the mentions, you're first. If two competitors have more, you're third.

It turns a percentage into a position, which is often easier to report. "We're second on office coffee" is quicker to take in than "our share of voice on office coffee is 24%."

How it's worked out

First, work out each tracked brand's share of voice: its mentions divided by all the mentions of the brands you track. Then sort the brands from highest to lowest.

For example, across 140 answers, Kestrel Roasters is named 70 times, Fernhill Coffee 49 times and Harrow & Pine 35 times. That's 154 mentions. Kestrel's share is 45%, Fernhill's 32% and Harrow's 23%. Fernhill's share of voice rank is 2.

What to watch out for

The rank only counts the brands you track. Add a competitor who's named a lot, and you can drop a place overnight without any answer changing. Leave out a strong competitor, and your rank looks better than it should.

A rank also hides the gaps between brands. Second place with 32% against a leader on 33% is very different from second place against a leader on 60%. Read the shares next to the rank.

Share of voice rank in AnswerOrbit

Share of voice rank only counts the brands you track. Visibility rank counts every brand the answers name, so competitors you don't track yet show up there. The Ranks definition explains all three ranks, and the Ranking tab in Competitors puts you and every competitor side by side.
