Wikipedia presence
Wikipedia presence is whether your brand has a Wikipedia article, or is mentioned in others, which AI models read in training and in search.
Wikipedia presence is whether your brand has its own Wikipedia article, and whether it's mentioned in other articles, like one about your industry. Wikipedia is one of the most widely read sources on the web, for people and for AI models.
Models read it in training, and platforms often cite it when they search. So an accurate article can help the platforms describe you correctly. But it's easy to overrate, and it's hard to get.
Why you can't just write one
Wikipedia has strict notability rules for companies. A company needs significant coverage in independent, reliable sources, such as major newspapers or trade press, before it qualifies for an article. Press releases, your own site and passing mentions don't count.
Its rules on conflicts of interest also strongly discourage you from writing or editing an article about your own company. Articles written by the company are often flagged or deleted.
What to do instead
If you're not notable yet, the work that would make you notable is the same work that helps in AI search anyway: get covered by independent publications. Once that coverage exists, someone else may write the article.
In the meantime:
- Check whether you're mentioned in articles about your industry, and whether it's accurate
- If you already have an article and it's wrong, raise it on the article's talk page with a source
- Look at Wikidata, which has a lower bar
- Check whether the answers to your prompts actually use Wikipedia, since for questions about what to buy, platforms often lean on reviews and list articles more
An example
For example, Harrow & Pine has no article, but it's listed in a Wikipedia article about British furniture makers with a wrong founding year. Its marketing team posts on the talk page with a link to a newspaper profile that gives the right year, and an editor corrects it.

The Domains tab in Sources shows every website the answers used for your prompts, so you can see how often Wikipedia is among them, and on which platforms.
