Brand context

Brand context is the background a tool or AI system holds about your brand: what you sell, to whom, where, and at what price.

Brand context is the background information about your brand that a tool, or an AI system, works from. What you sell, who you sell to, where you deliver, what you charge, who you compete with. It's the short brief you'd give a new colleague on their first day.

It matters in two places. AI platforms answer questions about you from whatever context they've gathered, right or wrong. And any tool that tracks you in AI answers needs good context to ask the right questions and to know a wrong answer when it sees one.

Context the platforms build for themselves

Nobody hands ChatGPT or Gemini a brief about you. They put one together from your website, reviews, directories, news and their training data. If those sources are out of date or disagree, the picture they build is muddled.

For example, Fernhill Coffee started delivering across the UK last spring. Its old "London delivery only" page is still live, and two directories still say so. A platform asked where Fernhill delivers may well say London.

Context you give your tools

The context you give a tracking tool shapes what it does for you. A clear description of your business leads to prompts your customers would actually ask. A list of true facts lets the tool catch answers that get you wrong.

Keep it short, current and specific. "Specialty coffee roaster, ships whole beans and ground coffee across the UK, subscriptions from £12 a month" is more useful than a paragraph of brand values.

In AnswerOrbit

Your brand's Profile in Settings holds your name, website and what you do, and we use it to suggest topics and prompts. Your facts in Claims are what we check each answer against, and your source of truth is the pages, files and text those facts are drafted from.
