Shopping
Shopping, in AI search, is when people ask an AI platform what to buy and it answers with products, prices and links to shops.
Shopping, in AI search, is when someone asks an AI platform what to buy and it answers with products. Instead of a paragraph naming brands, the answer shows product cards: a picture, a name, a price, and links to the shops that sell it.
For brands that sell products, it's a new shop window. The platform picks a handful of products and puts them in front of someone who's ready to buy. Being one of them, and being described with the right price, decides whether that shopper ever sees you.
How it's different from a normal answer
A normal answer names brands in text. A shopping answer names products, and it shows facts you can check: the price, the shop, sometimes a rating. Those come from shops' product data and the pages the platform reads, so an out-of-date feed or page can put a wrong price in front of a buyer.
The order matters too. Like a shelf in a shop, the first product gets the most attention.
An example
Someone asks ChatGPT for "a good coffee grinder for a beginner under £100." It shows four product cards. Kestrel Roasters sells a grinder in that range, and it isn't among them. The four products shown all appear on two review sites and in big retailers' feeds. Kestrel's grinder is only listed on its own site.
Getting into shopping answers
Keep your product data complete and current, with clear names, prices and stock. Make sure your product pages put that information in their HTML, with product structured data. And get your products onto the shops and review sites the platforms read for your category.
Shopping in AnswerOrbit
Shopping shows which products appear in ChatGPT's shopping answers for your prompts, which brands they belong to, and how often yours come first. It's the only platform we read shopping results from. Connect your catalogue from Shopify, Google Merchant Center or a file, and we match every product card to one of your products, and mark any quoted price that differs from your catalogue. Ads shows the ads ChatGPT shows next to your answers.
