AEO audit

An AEO audit is a full check of how AI platforms treat your brand: where you're named, what they say, what they read, and what blocks you.

An AEO audit is a full check of how AI platforms treat your brand today. It looks at where they name you, what they say about you, which pages they read to answer, and what on your own site gets in their way.

It's the starting point for any work on AI answers. Without it, you're guessing which change to make first.

What an audit covers

A good audit asks the platforms the questions your customers ask, many times over, and reads the answers. From those answers it works out four things:

  • How often you're named, and next to which competitors
  • What the answers say about you, and whether it's true
  • Which pages the platforms read and link to, and whether yours are among them
  • Whether AI bots can reach and read your own pages

The result is a list of strengths to keep, problems to fix, and places to show up where you're missing today.

An example

Say Harrow & Pine, a furniture shop, runs an audit. The answers name it often for "solid oak dining tables" but almost never for questions about furniture delivery in Scotland. Two answers say it doesn't deliver outside England, which is wrong. And its delivery page is drawn by a script, so bots can't read the text on it.

That's three clear jobs: get onto the pages the platforms read for the Scotland questions, correct the wrong claim at its source, and put the delivery text in the page's HTML.

Do it once, then keep doing it

AI answers change from day to day, so one audit is a snapshot. It's most useful as a starting line you measure later work against.

AEO audits in AnswerOrbit

Every part of an audit has a home in AnswerOrbit. Sources shows the pages the platforms read, and Gaps where competitors are named and you're not. Claims checks what the answers say against your facts. Website shows which AI bots your robots.txt lets in and what bots see on your pages. Then Recommendations turns it into a ranked list of what to change, every Monday.
